These different spaces were all to integrate the same philosophy. They were to make up a coherent whole adapted to the needs of each generation, a space for intergenerational encounters.

To give current and future generations the means to live in an environment that fosters their active aging and sense of accomplishment, a new momentum was needed in order to chart the course.

The Portland Plan is a three-year action plan preparatory to a citywide effort to revise the city’s 25-year strategic, comprehensive plan to make Portland a more thriving and sustainable city for all of its residents.

We immediately recognized the value the Age-Friendly Cities program could bring to the quality of life for residents of the greater Des Moines area, as well as the opportunities for AARP members to contribute to the process.
